Schechter’s later book, Depraved, on serial killer H.H. Holmes AKA Herman Mudgett, prominently displays quotes from the Boston Book Review at some point after publication in 1994. It should be noted that it is assumed that Gary Kadet has frequently used variations of ‘Mudgett’ as twitter handles close to the present.

Various, 1999 – In the CUFSmaine Newsletter, Gary Kadet (under his username GothMuscle) is mentioned several times. He is accused of threatening women members at Restraints, a BDSM club, and was banned for unsafe play at some point after September 1998. It is claimed this is how he caught ‘Hep C’. Around April 1999 PurringSub, stated to be in a relationship or partnership with GothMuscle, is claimed to have brought an undercover cop to Restraints, resulting in police action against the venue, which resulted in the club’s closure. There are claims of GothMuscle intimidating the management of CUFS over the ‘truth about D/s’, possibly Gary’s book, released the next year.
( https://web.archive.org/web/20010420014951/http://cufsmaine.org/newslett5.htm – Under August 1999 and September 1999 )
August 23 1999 – A posting from ‘BDSM News’, detailing the closure of Restraints. Commenters discuss harassment, and John Warren provides details on the ejection of ‘a member who went by the names of Petronius and Gothmuscle’, who had a reputation ‘as a bit of a careless player, particularly where blood play was involved’. Gary is said to have been complaining that Restraints had cleanliness problems.
June 3, 2000 – Gary’s book, D/s, is released. A webpage is put online to promote it. He features review quotes from Harold Schecter, M.J. Rose, and Jon Land, all of whom he reviewed favourably in the Boston Book Review. Plot elements seem to include the murder of a woman, Karenina, by her husband, Bennie Poshlust-Middler, whom the protagonist is having an affair with. The protagonist goes on to murder Bennie. A character named Warner Cousins aka ‘The Tutor’ appears, possibly a representation of usenet user ‘John Warren’, author of ‘The Loving Dominant’, who goes by ‘The Mentor’. Characters attend a BDSM club named ‘Paddles’, possibly a representation of Restraints. Many characters are participants in TES, a BDSM organization/community, possibly a representation of CUFSmaine. The main character is a freelance journalist, like Gary Kadet, with a similar background, and who writes a column called ‘Round the Towne’, similar to Gary’s ‘Around Town Culture’. The protagonist’s online handle and BDSM pseudonym is ‘Propertius’, who was Latin poet of Elegies, born around 50 BC. Early on Gary used the handle Petronius, who was a novelist in the court of Emperor Nero, born around 27 AD. At one point a character mentions an anonymizer service routed through Finland. The earliest usenet posting under the handle Petronius, from 1993, utilizes an anonymizer service routed through Finland.

5 July 2000 – A user with the e-mail address ‘firstname.lastname@example.org’ (Gary Kadet lists on his Linkedin page, under specialities, ‘ depth of knowledge about popular music, going back to the early Edison cylinders’. The Jazz musician George Barnes used the pseudonym ‘Dean Hightower’ on a single album, Gary has ‘liked’ George Barnes on facebook.) provides a lengthy tirade against John Warren’s claims against Gary Kadet, and makes many abusive claims about John Warren. Hepatitis B is mentioned, and John Warren responds with, ‘Some people find enemies where there are none… others fixate on one person because it is difficult for them to realize how widespread distaste concerning their actions have spread.’
( https://groups.google.com/d/msg/soc.subculture.bondage-bdsm/J7IUHi8Z70g/BtOnqbpUToYJ Another, similar posting, possibly an alternate thread, following an advert for d/s. )

19 July 2000 – Gary Kadet is interviewed in the Boston Herald in the context of his book D/s. He seems to indicate his involvement in BDSM is only for the purposes of researching his book.

Earlier in the post he seems to claim that Gary has been spreading rumours that John Warren’s book was plagiarized.
(D/s for plot details from the book.)
1 November 2000 – A user seemingly impersonating BrocktonBiCouple posts a parody about Attleboro, referring to the raid of 8 July 2000, with an attached letter dated 30 July 2000 sent to a large number of different e-mail addresses. A reference is made to plagiarism by ‘Menty’, probably referring to John Warren ‘The Mentor’.
4 November 2000 – Gary Kadet (‘GothMuscle’) is accused of slander by user BrocktonBiCouple, who claims to have approached a police officer with their ID to disprove Gary’s claims that BrocktonBiCouple is a wanted felon. The main character refers to themselves as ‘Rockin’ Rod the Goth Scene God’, similar to Gary’s handle of GothMuscle, and the S&M scene is referenced. The protagonist sleeps with multiple women, most of whom on first appearance are given a short description similar to the one that introduced ‘Warren Cousins’ aka ‘The Tutor’ in D/s. (Miltown may be a reference to the drug Miltown/Meprobamate/Equanil, which has been used as a date rape drug.)

28 May 2020 – Gary Kadet’s next book, The Ogre Life, is released. It is dedicated to H.* J., a German women’s bodybuilding competitor twelve years younger than Gary. The sales blurb includes, ‘(The Protagonist) traces his life as a secret, fetishistic enthusiast for female bodybuilders (“Schmoe”), then as a bodybuilding competitor himself. He recounts his marriage to German competitive bodybuilder Martina and particularly his love affair with world-class professional bodybuilder Erika Verletzen, an impassioned, indomitable lunatic.’ In the text, Erika Verletzen is described as a german women’s bodybuilding competitor with physical features similar to H. J.*, and as ten years younger than the protagonist. In the opening scenes the protagonist competes in Pittsburgh at a bodybuilding competition, places at the bottom of their bodybuilding bracket, are removed from it, and placed at the top of the next bracket down. These events are very similar to the details around Gary Kadet’s competition record at the 2010 NPC Masters National Championships. References are made to ‘Barry Unit’, an event organizer, which may be defamatory if in reference to Gary Udit, a bodybuilding trainer and event organizer, who seemingly organized the 2010 NPC Masters National Championships. With speculation, Gary may have been married to *?. S. (also listed in competition as *?. Kadet) until early 2010, a German competitive bodybuilder, who may be represented as Martina.
